Duck Under Escape
Back Mount Escape — Under-Arm Turn-In
Key Steps
1) Establish frames and space
- From back mount, frame with your near-side arm against the opponent's chest to limit their reach, and control the far arm to prevent choking.
- Keep your head close to your own shoulder and your posture upright.
2) Clear the arm and duck under
- Drop your weight, tuck your chin, and slide your head under the opponent's near arm to create a path to the other side.
- The goal is to clear their choking arm while maintaining a tight frame.
3) Turn into them and reposition
- Pivot your hips and circle your torso to face your opponent's other shoulder; place your near knee across their chest to block their hips.
- Step around to end on the side, ideally landing in their guard or top position.
4) Rebuild control
- Reestablish grips and posture, keep your head protected, and prepare for the next transition.
Application
- This is a fundamental escape in jiu jitsu moves from back control; the step-by-step approach works in Gi or No-Gi and is beginner-friendly with practice.
Mistakes
- Failing to clear the arm, improper head placement, poor hip rotation, and not securing a base after turning.
Tips
- Move the head first, then the hips; practice slowly to build muscle memory; drill with a partner to reinforce bjj techniques and overall control.
